CAPTURING THE WORLD
An important part of developing The Smolderkin has been discovering how traditional marionette puppetry, handcrafted practical sets and modern virtual production can work together to create a single cinematic world.
For our recent proof-of-concept shoot at the Bow Valley College Virtual Production Hub, we brought these elements together on stage to experiment with scale, lighting, camera movement and the transition between the physical foreground and virtual environment.
The shoot gave us an opportunity not only to capture the first glimpses of The Smolderkin, but also to learn what this unconventional approach to filmmaking will require as we continue developing the feature.
It takes a clan to build a world, and I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make this latest step possible.
The journey continues…
