ONE PRACTICAL EFFECT AT A TIME
Building the world of The Smolderkin means creating as much in-camera as possible.
For the teaser, I built a circular fire pit at the centre of the ceremonial standing stones. Hidden beneath the set, a small tube connects the fire pit to a smoke machine, allowing smoke to slowly rise through the stones and into the scene.
It's a simple practical effect, but once combined with lighting, fire and atmosphere, it adds another tactile layer to the world we're creating.
Sometimes the simplest tricks are the most effective.
