EXPLORING PERSPECTIVE - A COLLABORATION WITH LAOWA OPTICS

I recently collaborated with Laowa while working on my short film Before the Sun.

For the Awakening Scene, the camera needed to move through a very confined space — ultimately traveling inside a vampire’s coffin. Capturing that perspective required a tool that could navigate tight corners and move through the set in a way that felt natural to the story.

Using the Laowa Probe Zoom Periscope lens allowed the camera to creep around corners, explore the textures within the environment, and shift perspective as the character wakes from his dream. It was a great opportunity to experiment with how camera movement and scale can help bring a moment to life.

Projects like this are a reminder that the way a camera moves through a space can be just as important as the performance or lighting. When you’re working within a small environment, perspective becomes a powerful storytelling tool.
