UNEARTHING BEAUTY IN THE DETAILS

I recently had the opportunity to work with NewPath Pictures as Cinematographer on a macro photography project focused on a collection of striking mineral and rock specimens.

Shot against a tabletop landscape built from black slate, the project transformed these small geological treasures into dramatic environments that felt vast and cinematic. Each specimen was carefully embedded within the slate and brought to life using a variety of practical in-camera techniques. Fog drifted through cracks in the stone, light was shaped and moved to reveal hidden colours, and subtle effects created the illusion of cave openings and underground discoveries.
