back in 1993 the eddie awards began as a small event at the plaza theatre in calgary. ed mcnally credits big rock beer fans with creating it. as the story goes, ed was presented with a traditional marketing plan, which came with an expensive price tag to which he responded. "no thanks, we will do it ourselves." without much thought he planned an event and offered up prize money to beer lovers, encouraging them to create the best beer commerical. big rock beer lovers rose to the occasion. they used whatever means they had to create the first beer commercials. they showed up in limos, wearing their swankiest hollywood glam attire. they all stuck around after they watched those commerials and had a party. the eddies were born.
